Nighttime Diapering

Nighttime Diapering

Once your baby starts sleeping through the night (yeah!), you may notice that the diaper you were using at night can no longer hold the wetness in. Don't panic, there are simple solutions to this issue. Though we have heard great things about wool covers for nighttime use, we found them to be extra work (special washing and adding of lanolin) and super bulky. It's also important to keep baby's skin dry through 6-12 hours of sleep. That's why we recommend using pocket diapers for nighttime as they have a nice layer that will wick moisture from baby's skin and keep them feeling dry all night!

Our favorites nighttime diapers have been the Bum Genius 4.0 These pocket diapers are easy to stuff with extra absorbency, due to their wider crotch area than most pockets. Pocket diapers will usually hold in more wetness than using covers and inserts, plus they already have a nice wicking layer that will keep baby's bottom feeling dry all night. The key with these diapers is to use one of the microfiber inserts that they come with and add a Hemp Prefold inside the pocket as well. The hemp cotton blend is amazingly absorbent and trimmer than most prefolds or microfibers. With this set up, my babes have been able to sleep 12+ hours with no leaks!

If you LOVE using covers at night, you can use the hemp prefold underneath a Flip Stay dry insert. The key is to make sure whatever is against baby's bottom will wick moisture away and keep them feeling dry.

If you still have leaking with this set up, then there could be an issue with residues in your diapers. Then visit ourWashing Info page to get your diapers back in working order
